Mr. + Mrs. Wagner | Ashton Gardens Wedding

The Wagners had a lovely morning wedding at Ashton Gardens this past January. I love that they made sure to incorporate all of the special people in their lives including their family, pup, and matchmaker! The day was beautiful and rain held off just for them! Enjoy a look at their big day below!

How did you two meet?

We met when we were 15 through a mutual friend inviting us to six flags. We talked for a little bit then it faded off. Six months later when we were 16, I had just gotten my drivers license, so I was driving around. I remembered where he lived from picking him up that one time we had ever met and so I randomly drove to his house. It was very unlike me to show up at cute boys houses and ask to hang out, but I texted this guy I didn’t even really know or talk to and told him to come outside. We hung out and instantly connected. I knew from the moment I saw him again I was going to date him, and I literally told my friend “He’s so cute I am going to date him” and a month later he officially asked to be my boyfriend! We have been together ever since and never broken up or taken any time apart.

How did he propose?

He had convinced me he wasn’t going to propose until after we had steady jobs and graduated which made so much sense but made me sad. He’s always so practical!! We were in Hawaii celebrating my parents 25th wedding anniversary. My family had spent a couple of great vacations at the Waikaloa on the Big Island, and we had some of our most special family memories there. As a kid, I would always say I was going to get married there. We had some family photos planned with a local photographer because 2018 was going to be a year full of milestones for the whole family. Halfway into the photo shoot, our photographer was going to do some individual shots of Jordan and I. She told me to look out at the ocean, and he was going to tickle me from behind. I had seen those kinds of photos before and thought they were kind of, and I hate being tickled but I trusted her and did as I was told. Jordan and I had made a joke earlier in the day about how tickling somebody is basically permission to punch them, so I whispered “get ready to get punched” jokingly, then she told me to turn around. He was on his knee and asked me to marry him. I just cried tears of joy and hugged him for a long time before I even remembered I got a ring out of the whole deal! The moment was captured beautifully with the Hawaiian sunset in the background. I could not have asked for it to be more perfect! I only wish the last words I said to him before he proposed weren’t “get ready to get punched” hahaha!

What are you looking forward to most about being married?

Getting to call him my husband and being called Mrs. Wagner! Also, one day (at least a good few years away) having kids and starting a family together. He’s going to be the best dad!

What has been the hardest part about wedding planning?

Probably doing it from a distance and finding time away from work to get stuff done. I get really bogged down researching vendors. I am learning that a wedding planner is not a job I should ever pursue. I am not that good at it. My mom has done so much of it which I am very grateful for!

Mr. + Mrs. Keegan | Atlanta Country Club Wedding

Lani and Brendan said their “I do”s at the Atlanta Country Club last month and everything came together beautifully! The couple said their vows on the driving range and then went inside to dance the night away. Thank you, Mr. and Mrs. Keegan, for letting me be a part of your big day!

Where did you two meet?

We initially met as freshman during college at Auburn University. We stayed good friends throughout all of college, and did many football games and game weekends away in a big group. However, it wasn't until after Brendan graduated that we started dating long distance (Auburn to Atlanta, then Birmingham to Atlanta). Once I finished nursing school in Birmingham, I moved to Atlanta and we finally ended long distance and were able to move in together!

How did he propose?

We planned an entire labor day weekend/Brendan's birthday trip around a place we could take our two dogs. Brendan's mom had planned to come to Atlanta for his birthday that weekend, so we just decided to make it a family trip and invited her, my mom, and my sister up to Hilton Head Island. The Friday we got there we had already made reservations for dinner but really wanted to take the dogs down to the beach at sunset and let them run around before we left. We walked on to the beach and I was so focused on getting pictures of the dogs running around and getting in the water I was oblivious to what else was happening. He all of the sudden asked me to put my phone down, but I still was trying to get pictures so he had to take it from me! He got down on one knee and that's when I realized what was happening! My mom, sister, and his mom got photos of us and were able to have the rest of the family on FaceTime. We wrapped it up by getting to take beautiful pictures at sunset on the beach with the us, the family, and the dogs :)

Rachael + Travis | Piedmont Park Engagement | Atlanta Photographer

This lady may look familiar because she was a bridesmaid in Chelsea and Justin's Wedding last month.  For their engagement session we went on a stroll through Piedmont Park and stopped at a few favorite spots along the way.  Rachael and Travis were high school sweethearts and now they're finally tying the knot!  Can't wait for this sweet couple's wedding at the Cator Woolford Gardens!

I absolutely loved getting to meet and spend time with Alex and Tim.  They are so sweet with one another and for their engagement session we went to Piedmont Park where Alex and Tim had their first date.  I can't wait for their wedding next Fall at the Taylor Grady House in Athens, GA!

Wendy + Chris | Cabbagetown Engagement Session

For Wendy and Chris's engagement session, we took a stroll around Cabbagetown in Atlanta.  Cabbagetown is known for it's small neighborhood feel and colorful art murals.  We ended up over at the Krog Street Market and Hop City.  Wendy and Chris are getting married at Monday Night Brewing this fall so it was only fitting to stop for beer while we were there.

This engagement session felt so true to Wendy and Chris and I can't wait for their big day this November!

Page + Brian | Midtown Atlanta Engagement Session

Page and Brian didn't have a set place in mind for their engagement session so decided to get the best of both worlds and took some photos at a park in Midtown and then walked over to The High Museum area.  I'm pretty sure they laughed for most of the session. Brian would do something silly and then Page would laugh and it was an endless cycle and I loved it.  I know their wedding this fall will be so much fun and I can't wait!

Ansley + JB | Atlanta Engagement Session | Tanyard Creek

Ansley and JB are awesome! We rescheduled their engagement session because of weather and then on the day of the rescheduled shoot, the weather had been uncooperative again! JB had the foresight to call the park rangers where we were planning to go and we changed course because of flooding.  The main things Ansley and JB wanted from their engagement session were some form of trails and water.  So I mentioned this little park along the Beltline to them and we made it happen!  I'm so glad we were finally able to do this session.  They are so full of joy and laughs and I can't wait for their wedding this coming September!

Anna + Tim | Midtown Atlanta Engagement Session

For Anna and Tim's engagement session we started off at Anna and Tim's perfect midtown condo right by Piedmont Park and then walked around their neighborhood.  I love that they wanted to incorporate this sweet in home portion of their session.  It was personal with added details like reading books and drinking tea, which they enjoy together.  When thinking about your own engagement session, I encourage you to think about locations or activities that are special to you and your love or even something that you would do on a date.

I can't wait for their intimate ceremony at the Atlanta Botanical Gardens this month!

Creative Conversations | Meet a Wedding Planner | Brianne McMullan Events

If you've been following along for a little while, you've seen this lady's face before.  I met Brianne a couple years ago when we met at a bridal consultation.  One of her bride's was meeting with me about potentially shooting her wedding and even though Brianne and I didn't get to work together on that wedding we became friends and have gotten to work together since!

Recently, she decided to branch out on her own after having planned for a few years with another planner.  I loved getting to shoot some branding photography for Brianne and am excited to share some images from our session!

Read below for some words from Brianne, of Brianne McMullan Events, herself!

Tell us a little bit about yourself!

I am the owner and heart behind Brianne McMullan Events, and we specialize in planning unique weddings for sentimental and sophisticated couples here in Atlanta and all over the Southeast. I am also a wife to an amazing husband, a cat mom, a margarita/chips & queso lover, and a Netflix connoisseur. I love creating & designing, and even though I am extremely introverted, I love working with people and supporting others.

How did you get into wedding planning?

I grew up passionately pursuing a career in elementary education and was thrilled to land an amazing teaching job when I graduated, but realized fairly quickly that the burnout I was experiencing day-after-day and year-after-year wasn't sustainable. I had a wedding of my own and realized throughout the process that planning weddings combined many of the qualities in a career that I value the most: working with people, serving and supporting others, creating beautiful designs and aesthetics, and logistics. I reached out to wedding planners here in Atlanta and was lucky enough to find a perfect position as a part-time associate coordinator for an established company. I worked with them for a couple of years, learning the ropes and gaining ample experience planning and designing weddings, as well as marketing myself and selling my services. Afterwards, I launched Brianne McMullan Events!

What are your current favorite color combinations or trends?

I am so excited to say that I think bold, crisp colors are becoming more popular! I love designing weddings that infuse deep jewel tones - think emerald, sapphire blue, or ruby - or that have bright and fresh color palettes! We were in a phase for a while where many brides were requesting neutrals and blush tones, which I think will always be in style, but I am excited for the challenge of incorporating bright hues into tasteful and sophisticated designs in the coming seasons.

Are there any trends that you'd like to see left behind?

While I think that burlap and mason jars have finally gotten the message, I'd like to put the final nail in the coffin. I also think that brides look at popular trends and feel like they have to jump on the bandwagon, but I would encourage every couple to pay more attention to incorporating personal details that speak to their story.

Any advice for couples getting married?

Stay focused on your marriage throughout your planning. Planning a wedding is so exciting and it will be an amazing day, but trust me when I say the best is yet to come! Keep your marriage at the heart of all of your decision making, be sure to talk about your marriage often (and attend premarital counseling if you desire), and continue dating each other throughout the process!

Any advice for new wedding planners just getting started?

The best advice I have is to put yourself out there. This could mean reaching out to other vendors to connect, blogging, attending networking events, or asking planners who are a few steps ahead of you for opportunities to gain experience. Oh--and don't be afraid to invest wisely in yourself. Workshops and trainings can be scary to invest in when you aren't making a huge profit, but the knowledge you gain can be invaluable.

Favorite Atlanta venue(s)?

I love venues in Atlanta that have pretty outdoor and indoor space, providing various settings for each moment in the event. Some of my favorites are the Atlanta History Center, The Estate, and Summerour. I also really love the sleek, modern look of Ventanas, and if you are looking for views of the Atlanta skyline, it is a hard one to beat! To be honest, there are so many great venues in Atlanta that it is hard to narrow it down!

What is something about wedding planners that many people may not know?

Wedding planners spend an average of 200+ hours planning your wedding. We are so dedicated to our clients, and are committed to saving them time, keeping them on budget, and eliminating as much stress as possible. Hiring a planner is an investment in your wedding, but in many cases planners can keep you more on track with your budget than you can do on your own because of our expertise and knowledge of industry standards. I also think couples feel that if they hire a planner, they won't have as much control over the wedding, but I think the opposite is true! In fact, I believe hiring a wedding planner who is able to completely grasp the vision for the wedding enables the couple to make educated decisions about their design and their vendors that will precisely deliver the look, feel, and experience that they were hoping for (and more!).

What are your hobbies/ non wedding related activities?

When I am not planning, I can be found spending time with my family and friends, trying new restaurants or visiting tried and true favorites, attempting to cook (we use Blue Apron), attending a barre or spin class, or enjoying a latte at a local coffee shop.

After planning your own wedding, was there anything you wish you did differently knowing what you know now as a professional?

I definitely would have done a first look! I was pretty stubborn about that one, but I would have wanted more of a relaxed timeline immediately following the ceremony instead of trying to cram in all of my family portraits and couple photos. Of course, my style has evolved now, so I would probably design a different aesthetic. I also forgot to get in my photo booth, so I would do that. But really, it was a perfect day and there is not much I would change! It was so much better than I had imagined it.

The Big Fake Wedding - Atlanta, GA | Three Taverns Brewery - Decatur, GA

In January, I had the pleasure of teaming up with several other amazing vendors to be a part of The Big Fake Wedding!  This event is a bridal show in the form of a fake wedding where a real married couple has a vow renewal ceremony and reception and the guests/ brides-to-be get to experience the vendors in real life!

You can see the feature over on Ruffled Blog, You've Been Noted, and The Big Fake Wedding Blog!

We had so much fun and I can't thank enough my wonderful assistants that day - Danielle Hulsey and Taylor Doehrman of Taylor Dawn Design.

The incredible vendors, whose products and services you'll see below are top notch and you should check them out!  The theme for this event was Parisian Twilight.  All photography by yours truly.

Elizabeth + Ian | Atlanta Engagement Session

Getting back into the blogging with an engagement session before heading out for the holidays!  Elizabeth and Ian are getting married this summer and I was so thrilled to photograph them on our stroll through the city back when it was much warmer :)

Chelsey + Ryne | Lullwater Park at Emory | Atlanta Engagement Photographer

Chelsey and Ryne picked out Lullwater Park in Atlanta for their engagement session and I'm so glad they did!  This property is beautiful and full of lush, green land.  There are plenty of places to explore including a pedestrian bridge and an old graffiti tower.

I can't wait for their upcoming wedding this September!

Brooke + Adam | The Goat Farm | Atlanta Engagement Photographer

For Adam and Brooke's engagement session, we headed over to The Goat Farm!  This arts center is so cool and has so many little interesting nooks.  There is history behind it too including more recent history of being part of the set of The Hunger Games movies!  We actually happened to see a few movie tours walking through while we were shooting.  Can't wait for their wedding this August!

Chateau Elan Proposal

Photographing this proposal alongside Michelle Stanislo was one of my most favorite things.  Siarra was completely surprised and her reaction was just perfect!  Calan proposed on the balcony at Chateau Elan and then we walked around the property for an impromptu engagement session.  I shot hybrid (film and digital) for this session while Michelle used her trust Mamiya to shoot only film.  To see Michelle's post, head over to her blog HERE.

Blogging and keeping up with my website is definitely a skill I am acquiring.  I've been so caught up shooting I haven't gotten to blog anything in awhile, but get ready everyone because I'm back!

First up, Mr. + Mrs. Matlock!  Leonard was one of my first new friends after moving to Atlanta and I'm so glad I got to capture his and Amanda's wedding day.  It was so full of joy and they didn't even mind when in started raining.  True signs of love if you ask me :)

I've loved getting to know Leonard and Amanda together as a couple after having met Leonard first soon after I moved to Atlanta.  They are so sweet and funny together and I can't wait for their wedding this October!

For this engagement session we started at Grant Park, then traveled to the top of the parking deck of Renovation Church where Leonard works, then headed to the ever scenic view of Atlanta's beautiful skyline at sunset.

Enjoy!

Emily & Zach | Chattahoochee River Engagement

I've had the pleasure of getting to know Emily and Zach through mutual friends from UGA and beyond and they are awesome! I was so excited when Emily asked me to be their wedding photographer because that means I'll get to spend all day with them on their wedding day!  These are the kind of people you want to be around whenever possible.  I had so much fun by the Chattahoochee River with Emily and Zach for their engagement session recently.  They were so much fun to photograph, full of laughs and their love for each other is obvious.  I absolutely can't wait for their mountain wedding this August in Ellijay, GA!

Congratulations Emily & Zach!

Britt Bass Turner | STUDIO STUDIO

This girl - so wonderful.  I loved getting to spend some time with Britt at her Buckhead studio.  We chatted while I took photos and she painted.  It was a great little morning talking about life, art, and being a creative.  It was wonderful getting to meet her husband and sweet little pup and I've loved getting to see how hard she's followed after her dreams since college.  Thanks Britt for letting me come hang out at STUDIO STUDIO while you prepped for #studioseshxo!  This space is an artist's dream - light and open with fresh white walls now enhanced with beautiful hand painted canvases by Britt.  Enjoy this little peek into where all the action of Britt Bass Turner takes place including Gather Workshop tomorrow!  I loved attending this workshop and the incredible girl bosses behind it.  If you are a creative, you need to go.
