Mr. + Mrs. Bach | Georgia Freight Depot Wedding | Downtown Atlanta

I so so loved getting to photograph this wedding. Jenny and I were in the same sorority in college so it was extra special to get to play a part in her big day. She and Kevin fit so perfectly together and this day could not have been filled with more special moments from breaking glass and hoisted chairs, to singing on stage and homemade cheesecake by Jenny’s dad. Thank you, Kevin and Jenny, for letting me photograph this special day!

How/ Where did you two meet?

We met in Fort Worth, Texas back in 2016. We laugh about the fact that Jenny is from Atlanta, Kevin is from Nashville and we moved halfway across the country to meet each other.

Summer of 2016, Kevin and Jenny both moved to the DFW area. Jenny relocated to Dallas and Kevin had an opportunity to launch a new Amazon facility in Fort Worth. Not knowing anyone in Fort Worth other than Michael – and now Courtney – Nash, Kevin downloaded Bumble with hopes of meeting new people. After a few swipes and inevitable matches, Kevin chatted up a girl who told him about Untapped Fest, a beer and music festival going on the following weekend. He asked Michael and Courtney if they wanted to go with him. Meanwhile, Jenny had met Michael at CMA Fest back in 2012 through (s/o to) Michael Handley who she was friends with at UGA. When she moved to Dallas, she saw on Facebook that Michael was moving to Fort Worth at a similar time and reached out to connect. Michael invited Jenny to go to Untapped Fest with them.

Kevin: When Michael first told me about Jenny, the two statements he told me were that she is super outgoing and talkative, and she knows more about sports than most people he knew. I was obviously intrigued and of course had to look her up. I thought she was absolutely beautiful, so I had high hopes for the day. When she walked into our apartment, I immediately had a big smile on my face and knew I had to be on my game. When we got to the beer festival I saw my first opportunity standing in line together at the bathroom. We started to talk and build on our connection, but I couldn’t quite tell if she was interested in me. Then out of nowhere, I hear a girl’s voice call my name. Low and behold, it was the girl who told me about the festival. I talked to this girl and split up from the group until Michael came walking back. He says to me, “Dude, I think you blew it with Jenny” and I knew I had to do damage control. I went running back to find Jenny, and once I found her, there was no more doubt that either of us were interested. As the night ended, I knew this girl was different.

Jenny: When Michael invited me to Untapped Fest, I asked who was going. He said him, his girlfriend and his roommate. I followed up quickly with, “What’s your roommate's name?” Obviously did some Facebook stalking... When I got to their apartment and Kevin came into the living room, I seriously thought he was so attractive and couldn't wait to get to know him better. At first, he was super quiet, and I couldn’t tell if he was interested or not. That is, until he joined me to wait in line for the bathroom. We had such good chemistry and were having a blast together, bouncing around and sweet talking vendors into giving us free beer (my forte). All of a sudden, I saw Kevin talking to another girl. We left him to go back to the festival and I mentioned to Michael how bummed I was that Kevin wasn’t interested in me! I must have completely misread him. A few minutes later, Kevin swoops in and explained the whole situation. He was very direct about how interested he was and said he couldn't tell if I liked him or not. I was so, so excited! The rest of the night, everything felt different – like a switch had flipped and suddenly we had known each other forever! Huge shoutout to "the Bumble" for expediting our relationship.

How did he propose?

Kevin and Jenny celebrated their two-year anniversary with a weekend getaway to Salt Lake City, UT. Kevin planned the entire weekend with the exception of Saturday morning, when Jenny wanted to take Kevin on her favorite hike (Jenny's company is headquartered in Salt Lake so she spends a good amount of time there). Sunrise at the top of Lake Blanche, Kevin completely shocked Jenny by asking her to marry him. SHE SAID YES! Kevin popped the bottle of champagne he had in his bookbag and the two began dreaming of their future together.

What has been the hardest part about wedding planning?

I've actually REALLY enjoyed wedding planning. I'd say the hardest thing has been with every new "item" we check off, I've been increasingly impatient about the big day getting here! Time has been both flying by and going so slow at the same time.

Mr. + Mrs. Beilman | The Conservatory at Waterstone

Mr. + Mrs. Beilman were married at The Conservatory at Waterstone in downtown Acworth. This sweet little venue looks like something out of New Orleans and was just right for these two. The rain held off for their ceremony, which Anna’s dad officiated, but we embraced the rain afterwards for some sweet photos in the rain. So excited to see these two become husband and wife! Congratulations Mr. + Mrs. Beilman!

Mr. + Mrs. Gardiner | Summerour Studio | Atlanta Wedding

Kelsey and Kevin’s wedding was a dream! I loved getting to be a part of it. The two were married at Summerour Studio, which looks straight out of Tuscany. Fun Fact: They actually filmed part of Pitch Perfect 3 there when the ladies are supposed to be staying at a hotel in Italy. The day was led by Taylor Dawn who assembled an amazing day with some wonderful vendors. Kelsey and Kevin shared sweet moments with friends and family and then danced the night away!

Congratulations Mr. and Mrs. Gardiner!

How did you two meet?

We met when we were 15 through a mutual friend inviting us to six flags. We talked for a little bit then it faded off. Six months later when we were 16, I had just gotten my drivers license, so I was driving around. I remembered where he lived from picking him up that one time we had ever met and so I randomly drove to his house. It was very unlike me to show up at cute boys houses and ask to hang out, but I texted this guy I didn’t even really know or talk to and told him to come outside. We hung out and instantly connected. I knew from the moment I saw him again I was going to date him, and I literally told my friend “He’s so cute I am going to date him” and a month later he officially asked to be my boyfriend! We have been together ever since and never broken up or taken any time apart.

How did he propose?

He had convinced me he wasn’t going to propose until after we had steady jobs and graduated which made so much sense but made me sad. He’s always so practical!! We were in Hawaii celebrating my parents 25th wedding anniversary. My family had spent a couple of great vacations at the Waikaloa on the Big Island, and we had some of our most special family memories there. As a kid, I would always say I was going to get married there. We had some family photos planned with a local photographer because 2018 was going to be a year full of milestones for the whole family. Halfway into the photo shoot, our photographer was going to do some individual shots of Jordan and I. She told me to look out at the ocean, and he was going to tickle me from behind. I had seen those kinds of photos before and thought they were kind of, and I hate being tickled but I trusted her and did as I was told. Jordan and I had made a joke earlier in the day about how tickling somebody is basically permission to punch them, so I whispered “get ready to get punched” jokingly, then she told me to turn around. He was on his knee and asked me to marry him. I just cried tears of joy and hugged him for a long time before I even remembered I got a ring out of the whole deal! The moment was captured beautifully with the Hawaiian sunset in the background. I could not have asked for it to be more perfect! I only wish the last words I said to him before he proposed weren’t “get ready to get punched” hahaha!

What has been the hardest part about wedding planning?

Probably doing it from a distance and finding time away from work to get stuff done. I get really bogged down researching vendors. I am learning that a wedding planner is not a job I should ever pursue. I am not that good at it. My mom has done so much of it which I am very grateful for!

Why Is Wedding Photography So Expensive?

I wrote an article back in 2015 for Wedding Lovely about the cost of wedding photography.  I was thinking about it again recently and decided to do a quick rewrite on the subject. If you’d like to read the original article, click HERE.   Alas, here are 5 reasons why wedding photography is so expensive.

washington national cathedral

QUALITY

Yes, quality of photography, but also of equipment. Full frame dslrs and computers don’t run cheap.  In addition, photographers need a variety of lenses to capture the various activities that happen on a wedding day.  Their overhead also includes, taxes and license fees, web hosting, client gifts, film, etc.

wedding shoes atlanta

EXPERIENCE

For a seasoned wedding photographer, this isn’t their first rodeo. Photographers know what kinds of moments to look for, are able to anticipate those hugs, high fives, and tears. They understand how the day will unfold and all the special moments in between. They are also able to do this with a smile on their face and a calm voice all while shooting seamlessly in a wide variety of lighting conditions.

A photographer on a wedding day is really several photographers in one - documentarian, product photographer, portrait artist, landscape and architectural photographer as well as pet, child, and family photographer.

atlanta wedding photographer

LIABILITY

There’s simply more liability on a wedding day.  It can’t be replicated.  If you schedule family photos and it rains, those photos can be rescheduled.  A wedding day typically cannot, so wedding photographers are ready and prepared no matter what the day brings.

wedding details atlanta

LIMITED

There are only so many weekend dates in a year and a wedding photographer can only be in one place at one time.  By shooting your wedding, they are foregoing other work, but also precious weekends that could be spent with friends and family who are off from work or traveling to see them. Instead, they choose to spend those days with you and your family helping you have the best wedding day experience possible.

washington dc wedding photographer

COST OF LIVING

Simply put, photographers are people who have to pay rent, bills, insurance and taxes just like you.  Often times, their taxes are more because they are taxed on their business as well as individually.  That said, a photographer living in a large city most likely charges more than a photographer living in a rural area.

If you have anything you think I should add to the list, I’d love to hear! Leave a comment for me below.

Mr. + Mrs. Adkins | Watkinsville, GA Wedding

Allie and Cameron were such a wonderful couple to work with. You could tell that their goals for their wedding were to glorify God and to celebrate with as many of their friends and family as they could. Cameron is the youth pastor at the church where they work so it was fun to see all of their students there and crushing it on the dance floor. Congratulations Mr. + Mrs. Adkins!

Where did you two meet?

Cameron and I met two years ago when we started as youth interns for Briarwood Baptist Church. Neither of us knew what we were getting into but we quickly discovered that we both had a heart for youth ministry and that we both loved Mike Ricks (the Youth Pastor at the time.)
I vividly remember the first day I met Cameron. I was looking for Mike’s office and he led me to it. After talking with Mike for a bit, Cameron came in and Mike awkwardly left us to get to know one another. It didn’t take me long to realize that something was different about this boy. The main thing that stood out to me was how intentional he was. He asked me so many questions and I could tell that he genuinely wanted to hear the answer. Another thing that caught my attention was that he constantly made eye contact with me. Not in a creepy way, but in an intentional and interested way (it also let me see how beautiful and blue his eyes are!) From the first day I met him and everyday since, Cameron has made me feel valued and important.

Mr. + Mrs. Boswell | Cathedral of Christ the King + Capital City Club

Annie and Zac said their vows at the Cathedral of Christ the King before they danced the night away at The Capital City Club. These two and their families are so kind and it was a pleasure getting to work with them. One of my favorite details of Annie’s was her blue wedding dress. Annie was actually the fifth to wear this vintage dress, originally worn by her grandmother. Annie and Zac looked like an old Hollywood couple as they walked back down the aisle. Also, a big shoutout to my girl, Danielle Hulsey, who was the biggest help and worked so hard with me on this wedding.

Where did you two meet?

We initially met as freshman during college at Auburn University. We stayed good friends throughout all of college, and did many football games and game weekends away in a big group. However, it wasn't until after Brendan graduated that we started dating long distance (Auburn to Atlanta, then Birmingham to Atlanta). Once I finished nursing school in Birmingham, I moved to Atlanta and we finally ended long distance and were able to move in together!

We planned an entire labor day weekend/Brendan's birthday trip around a place we could take our two dogs. Brendan's mom had planned to come to Atlanta for his birthday that weekend, so we just decided to make it a family trip and invited her, my mom, and my sister up to Hilton Head Island. The Friday we got there we had already made reservations for dinner but really wanted to take the dogs down to the beach at sunset and let them run around before we left. We walked on to the beach and I was so focused on getting pictures of the dogs running around and getting in the water I was oblivious to what else was happening. He all of the sudden asked me to put my phone down, but I still was trying to get pictures so he had to take it from me! He got down on one knee and that's when I realized what was happening! My mom, sister, and his mom got photos of us and were able to have the rest of the family on FaceTime. We wrapped it up by getting to take beautiful pictures at sunset on the beach with the us, the family, and the dogs :)

Mr. + Mrs. Davidson | Elegant Ashton Gardens Atlanta Wedding

Matt and Emily were seriously ideal clients.  I could tell right from the beginning that Emily is a planner.  The day was detailed and planned to perfection, but you couldn't glean an ounce of stress from her.  The aesthetics were beautiful!  When I get married one day (hopefully), I might just get Emily to plan it for me. These two are just as beautiful on the inside as they are on the outside.  Their ceremony was full of love and I enjoyed getting to hear more of their story and seeing Matt's twin brother "give him away" too. :)  It was a lovely day and I'm so thankful to have gotten to be a part of it!

Congratulations Mr. + Mrs. Davidson!

How/ Where did you meet?

One of the best parts of our story is that it begins in our favorite place on earth: Auburn University. During undergrad at Auburn, I often noticed Matt and thought he was a cutie ;) but our paths never seemed to cross. It wasn't until the Summer of 2015 that our friend groups intersected and we became fast friends! As our schedules majorly picked up the pace, we kept in touch, but didn't really reconnect again until Spring of 2016. We had our first date in Auburn, eating popsicles on Samford lawn. With Matt, I knew there was something special, so I was excited when we became more "official" while watching fireworks at the beach on 4th of July!

How did he propose?

Matt had my friends trick me into thinking I was going to a Chick-Fil-A corporate party on top of the Glenn Hotel in Atlanta. But on October 21, 2017, at the rooftop over-looking Atlanta, Matt asked me to marry him. It was one of the most joyous days and we are beyond grateful for the Lord's faithfulness to both of us.
