Creative Conversations | Basic Invite | Wedding Stationery

I got to do some product photography recently, which is always fun for me, for Basic Invite.  I even got to play around on the site and customize a couple of invitations and truly everything is customizable.  There are so many options!  Shout out to my girl, Taylor of Taylor Dawn Design for coming to style these invitations with me!

What is different about Basic Invite from other stationery companies?

Basic Invite is one of the few websites that allows customers almost unlimited color options with instant previews online. Once you select a design you can change the color of each element on the card to over 180 different color options. So, you can make sure the card is exactly how you want it - down to the littlest detail. This is what we feel sets us apart from almost any other online stationery company and is what we feel is our biggest draw.

Do I have to commit before actually seeing the invitations in person?

Basic Invite is one of the few websites that allows customers the ability to order a printed sample of their actual invitation so they can see exactly how it will print as well as the paper quality before they ever have to place their final order.

What else can I customize?

Basic Invite is just as colorful with our envelopes as we are with our invitations. Customers can choose from over 40 different colors when it comes to their envelopes so that they can make their invitation stand out even before it is opened. All of our envelopes are peel and seal so the envelopes can be quickly and securely closed.

What else do I need to know about wedding stationery?

Each of our wedding invitations is part of a set. You can find everything from save the dates to wedding invitations and enclosure cards, wedding menus, wedding programs and even matching thank you cards!

Creative Conversations | Meet a Wedding Planner | Brianne McMullan Events

If you've been following along for a little while, you've seen this lady's face before.  I met Brianne a couple years ago when we met at a bridal consultation.  One of her bride's was meeting with me about potentially shooting her wedding and even though Brianne and I didn't get to work together on that wedding we became friends and have gotten to work together since!

Recently, she decided to branch out on her own after having planned for a few years with another planner.  I loved getting to shoot some branding photography for Brianne and am excited to share some images from our session!

Read below for some words from Brianne, of Brianne McMullan Events, herself!

Tell us a little bit about yourself!

I am the owner and heart behind Brianne McMullan Events, and we specialize in planning unique weddings for sentimental and sophisticated couples here in Atlanta and all over the Southeast. I am also a wife to an amazing husband, a cat mom, a margarita/chips & queso lover, and a Netflix connoisseur. I love creating & designing, and even though I am extremely introverted, I love working with people and supporting others.

How did you get into wedding planning?

I grew up passionately pursuing a career in elementary education and was thrilled to land an amazing teaching job when I graduated, but realized fairly quickly that the burnout I was experiencing day-after-day and year-after-year wasn't sustainable. I had a wedding of my own and realized throughout the process that planning weddings combined many of the qualities in a career that I value the most: working with people, serving and supporting others, creating beautiful designs and aesthetics, and logistics. I reached out to wedding planners here in Atlanta and was lucky enough to find a perfect position as a part-time associate coordinator for an established company. I worked with them for a couple of years, learning the ropes and gaining ample experience planning and designing weddings, as well as marketing myself and selling my services. Afterwards, I launched Brianne McMullan Events!

What are your current favorite color combinations or trends?

I am so excited to say that I think bold, crisp colors are becoming more popular! I love designing weddings that infuse deep jewel tones - think emerald, sapphire blue, or ruby - or that have bright and fresh color palettes! We were in a phase for a while where many brides were requesting neutrals and blush tones, which I think will always be in style, but I am excited for the challenge of incorporating bright hues into tasteful and sophisticated designs in the coming seasons.

Are there any trends that you'd like to see left behind?

While I think that burlap and mason jars have finally gotten the message, I'd like to put the final nail in the coffin. I also think that brides look at popular trends and feel like they have to jump on the bandwagon, but I would encourage every couple to pay more attention to incorporating personal details that speak to their story.

Any advice for couples getting married?

Stay focused on your marriage throughout your planning. Planning a wedding is so exciting and it will be an amazing day, but trust me when I say the best is yet to come! Keep your marriage at the heart of all of your decision making, be sure to talk about your marriage often (and attend premarital counseling if you desire), and continue dating each other throughout the process!

Any advice for new wedding planners just getting started?

The best advice I have is to put yourself out there. This could mean reaching out to other vendors to connect, blogging, attending networking events, or asking planners who are a few steps ahead of you for opportunities to gain experience. Oh--and don't be afraid to invest wisely in yourself. Workshops and trainings can be scary to invest in when you aren't making a huge profit, but the knowledge you gain can be invaluable.

Favorite Atlanta venue(s)?

I love venues in Atlanta that have pretty outdoor and indoor space, providing various settings for each moment in the event. Some of my favorites are the Atlanta History Center, The Estate, and Summerour. I also really love the sleek, modern look of Ventanas, and if you are looking for views of the Atlanta skyline, it is a hard one to beat! To be honest, there are so many great venues in Atlanta that it is hard to narrow it down!

What is something about wedding planners that many people may not know?

Wedding planners spend an average of 200+ hours planning your wedding. We are so dedicated to our clients, and are committed to saving them time, keeping them on budget, and eliminating as much stress as possible. Hiring a planner is an investment in your wedding, but in many cases planners can keep you more on track with your budget than you can do on your own because of our expertise and knowledge of industry standards. I also think couples feel that if they hire a planner, they won't have as much control over the wedding, but I think the opposite is true! In fact, I believe hiring a wedding planner who is able to completely grasp the vision for the wedding enables the couple to make educated decisions about their design and their vendors that will precisely deliver the look, feel, and experience that they were hoping for (and more!).

What are your hobbies/ non wedding related activities?

When I am not planning, I can be found spending time with my family and friends, trying new restaurants or visiting tried and true favorites, attempting to cook (we use Blue Apron), attending a barre or spin class, or enjoying a latte at a local coffee shop.

After planning your own wedding, was there anything you wish you did differently knowing what you know now as a professional?

I definitely would have done a first look! I was pretty stubborn about that one, but I would have wanted more of a relaxed timeline immediately following the ceremony instead of trying to cram in all of my family portraits and couple photos. Of course, my style has evolved now, so I would probably design a different aesthetic. I also forgot to get in my photo booth, so I would do that. But really, it was a perfect day and there is not much I would change! It was so much better than I had imagined it.

Amanda Jewel Floral Workshop | West Elm Ponce City Market | Atlanta Photographer

This past spring, I had the pleasure of photographing a pop up workshop at West Elm - Ponce City Market for Amanda Jewel Floral Design.  Amanda is so super talented and West Elm was the perfect backdrop for her stunning blooms.  Attendees came together to learn from Amanda about the art of flower arranging and got to take home their very own bouquets!  I love getting to be surrounded my pretty things and wonderful people.

You can see Amanda's post HERE.

Can't wait to see more of these pop up in the future.  See her site to see when they're offered.

Personify Shop | Tour + Interview

I recently had the pleasure of visiting Personify Shop in Lakemont, GA and spending some time with the shop owners there - a mother-daughter team who have created a beautifully curated shop to help customers "personalize thier world". I loved everything in their shop and did a little shopping of my own after our session.

When did Personify Shop open?

We opened in May 2014 and then launched our website in October 2014.  Stay tuned for a Personify Shop Atlanta location in 2016.

Personify Shop's Lake Rabun Location: 8452 Old 441 S, Lakemont, GA 30552

What made you want to open a shop like this?

We have always loved design and treasure hunting together.  I (Maddie) remember loving to find new blogs, artists, and designers ever since I was really young.  I always remember my mom (Tammy) decorating the house, rearranging the furniture, and waiting for the perfect thing to put in our home that we could love for years to come.  Our goal is twofold:  offering our customers unique & curated goods to help them "personalize their world" i.e. surround themselves with things they love, and to encourage artists to keep up the good work by selling their goods.

What is your favorite product in the shop right now?

It changes all the time but, I have a huge weakness for pottery.  I'd have to say it's a tie between Honeycomb Studio Cermaics and Amanda Blair Dexheimer Studio Ceramics. - Maddie

I really love the antique and one of a kind furniture pieces.  But a classic favorite is the Votivo Red Currant Candle.  You can't beat it. - Tammy

I love the Capri Blue Volcano candles + those from P.F. Candle Co

I totally bought one of those Pendleton Mills Towels hanging on the rack - I'm using it as a blanket as I type.

You support local artists in your shop, and you also happen to be artists yourselves.  What do you each create?

I make Women's jewelry called Pepper and Orange and Kid's jewelry called Basil the Dog.  It's become a nice creative outlet for me and a little break from the business side of the shop.  I currently sell at our shop, on Etsy, and at Crafted Westside in Atlanta. - Maddie

I'm a landscape and floral painter primarily using acryllics.  I started painting 7 years ago and have found it to be a nice escape.  I'm drawn to bold, saturated colors and impressionistic renderings of pathways and roadways.  My work is sold at several galleries including our own and the Lake Rabun Hotel. - Tammy

What is it like working as a mother-daughter team?

Ha ha good question.  It's nice because we get to spend a lot of time together and collaborate freely.  We are also very honest about products we like or don't like and potential new lines.  We fight sometimes but have learned to push through that. - Maddie

I love getting the opportunity to work with Maddie.  We get to learn how to build a business together and I get to see her take on new leadership roles as the business grows. - Tammy

What are your dreams and plans for Personify Shop in the future?

We are very excited about looking for a second location in the Atlanta area for 2016!  I can't wait to be a part of the growing Atlanta design and art scene.  Our online store continues to grown and we hope to build upon a following all around the country.  My favorite thing is to be able to support new artists so the more we grown the more I can bring new products in.  That makes me happy. - Maddie

I'm looking forward to Personify Shop growing to bring more people onto our team and create a community where people can flourish. - Tammy

Favorite song to groove to in the shop?

If you've come into the shop the past couple of months you've heard me play "Bad Self Portraits" by Lake Street Dive.  They are soooooo good! - Maddie

I leave the music choices up to Maddie :) - Tammy

New! Albums | Holly Von Lanken Photography | Atlanta Wedding Photographer

Guess what? The time has come and albums are now being offered by Holly Von Lanken Photography!  I've already had many of you asking about these albums so I thought I'd give you a little preview.

Holly Von Lanken Photography will be offering a variety of products for you to choose from based on your wish lists and budgets.

The first, is a stunning hard back linen cover book with a custom dust cover.  This book is great for bragging about your fabulous wedding and showing off your photos that may not be the ones you put in frames all over your house.  Because, let's be real, you don't need to print every single photo to hang on your walls.  It might make you look a little self absorbed ;)

However, my favorite albums, are these beautiful heirloom albums made with thick archive quality paper, lay flat pages, and leather bound covers.  There will also be a linen option with these albums.  These albums are sure to stand the test of time and easily wiped clean from spills, and will serve as your first family heirloom to be passed down to your children and grandchildren.  Display them proudly on your coffee table for your guests to oo and ah over every time they visit.

Email hello@hollyvonlanken.com or use the CONTACT page to find out more information, schedule a meeting to view books in person, or order your album if you have been or will be photographed by Holly Von Lanken within the past/future calendar year.

The Experience with Holly Von Lanken Photography | Noi Tran Photography

I recently got to spend some time with my friend, Noi, of Noi Tran Photography.  This lady is a super talented film photographer in Atlanta and I'm so thankful I got to spend more time with her.  We met up at Cacao in the Virginia-Highlands, but after a minor mishap we relocated to Noi's home for a simple indoor session.  I love how these photos turned out and I hope you enjoy getting to know a little about me and enjoy watching me get ready to send off Mr. & Mrs. Collin's Wedding.

Thank you again, Noi, for the beautiful photos.  To see this session on Noi's blog, head over to her website HERE.

Things I enjoy: coffee, this outfit, beautiful photos, film, and calligraphy.  It's all right here in these photos.  I believe the experience you get with a wedding photographer shouldn't just be on your wedding day.  It's a culmination of everything from the engagement session, to planning how the flow of the day will go, all the way down to the package that arrives on your doorstep.  One of the things I want to offer my clients, in addition to beautiful images, is that they are delivered just as beautifully and wrapped up in love.  Here are just a few things I include in each set of wedding packaging.

Calligraphy is by my talented friend, Mallory, of Castle Paper Co.

Once all the packaging is together, it gets wrapped up in love and sent with a hand written thank you note.  I believe in thanking my clients.  They could easily have chosen one of the many other talented photographers around and so, each wedding is an honor and a privilege that I get to photograph.  They let me into their lives and their families for a day and it brings me much joy to create something beautiful for them.

Thanks again, Noi!

Britt Bass Turner | STUDIO STUDIO

This girl - so wonderful.  I loved getting to spend some time with Britt at her Buckhead studio.  We chatted while I took photos and she painted.  It was a great little morning talking about life, art, and being a creative.  It was wonderful getting to meet her husband and sweet little pup and I've loved getting to see how hard she's followed after her dreams since college.  Thanks Britt for letting me come hang out at STUDIO STUDIO while you prepped for #studioseshxo!  This space is an artist's dream - light and open with fresh white walls now enhanced with beautiful hand painted canvases by Britt.  Enjoy this little peek into where all the action of Britt Bass Turner takes place including Gather Workshop tomorrow!  I loved attending this workshop and the incredible girl bosses behind it.  If you are a creative, you need to go.

Castle Paper Co | Calligraphy

A couple of months ago I commissioned my good friend, Mallory Overton of Castle Paper Co, to letter my packaging for my clients and she did such an incredible job!  Seriously, if you ever need anything to be hand lettered, contact this girl! Mallory and I met originally at Beach Project through Campus Outreach, a college ministry.  Even though we attended different colleges, I'm so glad we were able to keep in touch and get to go through starting our creative businesses together.  I look forward to many more collaborations in the future! Seriously, go check this girl out.
